Es sind zerstörte und gestörte Menschen, die diesen Krimi bevölkern. Die Frau mit dem Zwang, sich wahllos jeder Missetat anzuklagen was nicht nur dem Pfarrer zu schaffen macht - wie wirkt sich ihre Zwangsvorstellung auf ihre Umgebung aus? Der etwas dümmlich wirkende Dicke, der seine Gedanken nur sortieren kann, wenn er den dahinvegetierenden Gummibaum im Kommissariat gießt, erweist sich schließlich als scharfsinniger Nachdenker. Der Kommissar, der bei der Vernehmung der Freundin der Toten ausrastet, seine Lebensgefährtin, um das prekäre Gleichgewicht zwischen ihr und der Stieftochter bemüht, der anonyme Anrufer, sie alle bilden ein verzweigtes Netz an Beziehungen, das sich vielschichtig entwickelt und auch sprachlich fasziniert.
